This is a guide on how to install Mac OS X 10.8.3 Mountain Lion Retail on a Windows PC (running windows 7 or 8) and having intel or amd cpu.
My emphasis will be for PC with amd cpu as it is complicated to get things running correctly on this and there is very little support out there for these machines.
The VMware image we use contains support for amd processors along with intel.

Before proceeding further check if your PC supports virtualization technology. Refer this post on how to check that.
- Requirements
- VMware workstation version 8 or later (I used version : 9.0.2 build-1031769)
- Download OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.3 VMware Image w/ AMD Support here
- Install WinZip or 7-Zip if you don't have already (winrar shows errors during extraction, so better use one of these)
- Installation procedure
- Install VMware workstation (If you get 'The msi error' check this post on how to fix it)
- Unzip OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.3 VMware Image
- Patch VMware using the tools in VMware workstation Unlocker present here
3a. Run 'install.cmd' as administrator
3b. Run 'Unlocker.exe' as administrator
4. After this go to 'OS X Mountain Lion' folder and open 'OS X Mountain Lion.vmx' (size: 3KB in the beginning)
3b. Run 'Unlocker.exe' as administrator
4. After this go to 'OS X Mountain Lion' folder and open 'OS X Mountain Lion.vmx' (size: 3KB in the beginning)
4a. For amd cpu before opening '.vmx' file run 'amd-kernel.cmd' as administrator
5. The '.vmx' file opens the OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.3 VMware Image (.vmdk file) in the VMware workstation and you can change Memory (RAM), Processors allocation settings and others
5a. In 'Virtual Machine Settings' go to 'Display' option and check 'Accelerate 3D graphics' option if you face 'infinite boot loop' error on start up
6. Once done with all these steps click on 'Power on this Virtual Machine' if you are able to see the Welcome screen - congrats...
Here are some working screen shots of Mac OS X 10.8.3 on my Virtual machine
